Day 3

Today we visited Mount Rushmore and then spent a few hours in the town of Deadwood, SD.  We then drove on into Wyoming and found a great campground on a lake.  Once again we were about the only ones camping there (there was one RV there).  This campground was like something out of the Twilight Zone...there were animals (deer, pronghorn, turkeys) everywhere.  There were also huge carp flopping around in the lake by our campsite all night long.  To top things off, a nice buck decided to swim all the way across the lake right in front of our campsite.

As we were pulling out of our Day 2 campground, we saw this heard of Long Horn Sheep crossing the road.

(although they were too young for their horns to have the full curl)

I was surprised how many trees there are around Mt. Rushmore

Mountain Goat. This one was kindof cheating though...I think it was planted on the Mt. Rushmore grounds

Gold mine in Lead, SD. This gold mine just closed in 2002 after over 100 years of operation. The well know Black Hills gold came from this mine.

We spent the afternoon in Deadwood, SD. A really cool town.

Will Bill Hitchcock was killed in this saloon.

Dave re-inacting the event.

Some friends we met in Deadwood

Kevin Costner has a restaurant there...these are the golf clubs from one of my favorite golf movies -- Tin Cup.

Heading into Wyoming to find a campground we starting seeing lots of wildlife, including these turkeys.

We probably saw 2,000 of these on the trip. At first we thought they were antelope...then learned they were actually Pronghorn, which must be similar

We've arrived at the twilight zone campground and the animals were everywhere (there just weren't any people anywhere)
